Opening Ceremony
2012 Edition
The 5th of November, at 16:00, the Official Opening Ceremony of the reCity European Joint Masters Course in city regeneration will be held at the Politeama Theatre, Catanzaro (ITALY).
The coordinating institution is the FISD - Integrated Higher Education of Design, a non-profit consortium of education and research composed by leading universities, higher education institutes, professional training centres and European and non-EU organizations. The quality of city and consequently quality of people’s life living in represents the emergency of the contemporary city. This is the focus of the reCity, that is one of the most innovative educational projects of the year.
The program consists of interactive sessions, forums, field trips and workshops on the topic of city regeneration and it is mainly based in Italy and itinerantly among various locations in Europe and in Third countries. More details at http://fisd.eu/en/recity.html
The event
The Ceremony belongs to the Welcome Week of the reCity EJMC beginning, that precedes the start of the didactic activities and during which the FISD organises different activities and events to make insertion into a new social context more enjoyable and encourage the students enthusiasm.
Representatives of FISD Consortium partners, authorities, reCity students and their parents, stakeholders and representatives of job market, hundreds of people interested to the city regeneration coming from different countries, will attend to the Ceremony.
In the framework on the event, an exhibition of the applications for the Design Contest Portfolio on the theme “Port Gioia Tauro Vision 2030", submitted in two last edition, is scheduled. The ideas arisen in the portfolios will give the starting to a forum on the city regeneration, with the participation of distinguished international speakers.
Further, the reCity EJMC scholarships awardees, granted by the Region of Calabria, will be unveiled.

The location
The Politeama theatre, located in the historic centre of Catanzaro and designed by the Italian architect Paolo Portoghesi, was inaugurated in 2002.
With a shape that brings to mind that of a stringed musical instrument, the building fits in with classical Italian-style opera theatre tradition.
The space available is 53,000 m3 to allow an audience of around 900 seats.
In a glittering and harmonious composition, five tiers of "star-studded" boxes highlight a collection of stalls in red crimson.
